| The Midrash says: When the Jewish people crossed the Sea of Reeds,
the waters parted into twelve distinct paths, one for each tribe. The walls were
transparent so that the tribes maintained unity, but they walked on different paths, each
tribe having its own unique path to the other side. Each individual traveled a different
route, each reaching the common goal at the other side on the way to receiving the Torah
on Mt. Sinai
