| The Ramban, Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman, renowned for his brilliant commentaries on the Talmud and Chumash, was a man whose life was intertwined with the most fascinating issues of his day. Born in 1194 and living for 72 years in Northern Spain, he forged a path in Talmud learning that integrated the best of both the Sephardic and Ashkenazic traditions. As an elderly man in 1267 he was forced out of Spain and moved to Eretz yisrael. Until his death in 1270, he was the major force in re-establishing the Jewish community of Jerusalem. |
