| Professor Liebowits was born in Riga in 1903. His Jewish education was from his parents and his general (secular) education from the universities of Europe, where he received an M.D. and a Ph.D. Starting in 1934, he was professor of Organic Chemistry at Hebrew University, as well as professor of chemistry and biology in the natural science faculty. He was also a professor of neuro-psychology of the medical faculty, and a guest lecturer of Jewish studies at Haifa University.
After retiring in 1973 he remained a professor of philosophy at the Hebrew University. From 1956 to 1972 he was editor-in-cheif of the Hebrew Encyclopedia. His research - most of which was published in English - was in the fields of chemistry, bio-chemistry, and biology. His professional scientific manuscripts and articles are in the areas of science and the philosophy of science. |
