| Artist's Statement: "Creating a fictitious scene, motivated by illusions of reality. The skies change, obsessed with the spin of the earth, all we can do is hang on. I paint that which interests me. Building cities, streets, windowed rooms, people and nature, as it is, and as it could be." "As a child, my house being the second built on the street, I spent hours watching as the builders spread cement, placing brick upon brick, the excess binder scooped and slung into a bucket. Day by day a house came into being, adding to the growth of my enveloping suburbia." "Istanbul and much of Europe mesmerized me. Details covered the facades of structures, small streets hid hiding enclaves and ...balcony(s). Faces looked out of windows, framed by the evening glare of a television set. The mundane was bizarre, saturated in the unexpected. Cultures collided in both their demeanor and architectures." "The Far East, with its smells, tastes and, thick as soup, ornamentation treat the eye to an orgy of color. I met my wife out there which brought me to Israel. Reality here is an existential highway. War is at your door, birds sing in the garden, and the sun is omnipresent. The spirits dance upon the land, laughing, their faces covered in tears. My world, entrenched in imagination, is my subject matter. Take a walk through my paintings and enjoy." |
