Jewish Books - Hebrew & Yiddish
Two types of Hebrew can be learned: Conversational (Modern) Hebrew, and Biblical Hebrew (which concentrates on reading the Torah and Siddur). Within these two disciplines either one of two distinct Hebrew pronunciations are appropriate: Ashkenazic (Eastern European) or Sephardic (Israeli). Today, most converstional Hebrew is according to the Sephardic pronuncation.

Jewish tradition asserts that Hebrew is the language “with which the world was created”. This means that Hebrew does not merely describe reality; it is the source of reality. Rather than being a vehicle to express meaning, the Hebrew language is the source of meaning. Hebrew is, then, not an etymological system but a spiritual path… waiting to be unpacked by the spiritual seeker.
Rabbi Mordechai Gafni
