| The Mishna contains the teachings of the early Rabbis which were
recorded by Rabbi Judah haNasi around 220 CE. The Gemara is an
explanation and elaboration on the Mishna. It was compiled over the
following three centuries. Together, the Mishna and Gemara make up
the Talmud, also known as the Oral Law. The Talmud complements and
completes the instruction provided in the Five Books of Moses. In
other words, the Torah commands a person what to do. The Talmud
explains how it should be done. Judaism.com can help you dive into
the Sea of Talmud with the texts, English translations, and dozens of
commentaries.
