Description:
When Pazit Trujillo begins her freshman year at Jericho High School, she quickly realizes that people in this small suburban town aren't used to Jewish girls with strange names. Despite the stares and whispers, Pazit is determined to join the school band. But on the first day of practice she learns that the band will play hymns and march in the formation of a cross. With the support of her father and stepmother, she objects. Most people in the town -- students, parents, teachers -- see Pazit's objection as a serious threat. They unite against her, taunt her, and even threaten her. Pazit feels hurt, scared, angry, and worst of all, alone. Then, to her surprise, drummer Billy Harper stands up for her -- and both Billy and Pazit learn something about friendship and the importance of exercising one's rights.
