Jeruchim was ten in 1940 when his family fled Paris before the Nazi invasion. They returned months later, but soon had to flee the harassment of Jews by the Nazis and French police. The three children were separated, and he was kept by a gentile family on a farm in Normandy until after the war. Living conditions were harsh, and the farm work was heavy and difficult; but even worse was the loneliness, isolation, uncertainty, and fear that dogged young Simon day and night, for he had little news of his family. The children were then reunited in a series of Jewish children's homes and were sent to the US in 1949, but it was another 50 years before they learned of their parents' death at Auschwitz. Included with photos, documents and artwork by the author.
