An Exciting Educational Tool for Teaching Brochos!
What is Know Your Brochos! ?
Know Your Brochos! is a program designed to educate and excite children to learn and say the proper blessings on food. Each set includes 54 cards that children can collect and trade, each featuring a different food. On the front of the card is the name of the food in Hebrew and English, a picture, and the blessing said before eating it. On the back is Fun Food Facts, which includes information and trivia about the food, Torah concepts related to making blessings, as well as the blessing said after eating it.
How is the program used?
Know Your Brochos! is used as an incentive in schools and educational facilities to teach children the correct blessings to their foods and encourage them to say the proper blessings. Teachers reward students by giving them a random card when a blessing is said. The cards are also awarded for other positive behavior throughout the day. Over the course of a few months, the children work to complete their collection of all 54 cards, trading with each other if they receive doubles. At the conclusion of the program, the school may choose to have a learning competition or Brochos Bee, based on the information on the cards.
What are the goals of the program?
To know the proper brocha and after-brocha for many different foods
To learn the laws and Torah concepts related to making blessings
To learn the Hebrew names for the foods
To gain an awareness and enthusiasm for saying blessings
To provide an exciting and educational activity for the children
