Reach Out
By Gershon Veroba
Produced by: Goldberry Group
Lyrics by: Gershon Veroba
2007
This all-original album has been a long time in coming for hard-core Veroba fans who know his music and abilities, far beyond his more recent work as a parody master in "Impressions" and the "Variations" series. "The time has come for people to say, 'very nice, but what else can you do?' " He laughs, "I've been copying other people's songs for so long, it's hard for people to believe I can let go of that railing and walk up the steps on my own... my own production, my own studio, my own choices of music and lyrics, my own concert band with the best musicians I ever worked with, who come with me to each concert, composers I respect, plus good friends as guests. What could be better?" The band he's referring to is Takana, which he put together two years ago with veteran musicians Gal Gershovsky, Tony Montalbo, Bill Nelson, Zvi Lampert and Bobby Shubowitz. Back-up singers include long-time friend and studio buddy, Avromy Wiesberger, as well as Gershon's son Abie, who's named after Gershon's father, a cantorial master who studied with the famous Joseph Rosenblatt. With his daughter, Aliza, consulting and co-engineering, it's a family affair. The songs are chosen to please his uniquely wide audience. Gershon and fellow composers Elimelech Blumstein, Yaakov Gifter, Sam Glaser and co-composer Avraham Fried, provide memorable and strong material that Gershon selected from hundreds of others considered since his last production, Impressions (Variations 4, released in 2005, was produced by Suki and Ding).
