Illustrated Sidrot & Haftarot
By Artist Michal Meron
Edited by Alon Baker
9.5"x12" (248 Pages)Publisher: Jewish Publication Society, 2000
The culmination of a long-awaited project bringing together the captivating artwork of Michal Meron, an Israeli artist, and the current translation of the Five Books of Moses by The Jewish Publication Society.
Meron worked for over four years creating her striking full-color paintings that were originally released as limited edition prints. This volume is an original Chumash, containing excerpts from all the sidrot and fhaftarot, the weekly readings.
Each sidrah includes three interpretive elements: illustrations by Meron, excerpts from the JPS translation of that sidrah and its haftorah; and a brief summary by Dr. Ellen Frankel, noted author and scholar. Meron's personal style is characterized by the extensive use of bold colors in the naive style, similar to traditional American folk art, and by the incorporation of Hebrew text in her artwork.
