Wiesel was a young boy when he was taken to Auschwitz, and was among only 400 children who managed to survive the death camp. He has devoted his life since the war to battling injustice, and has been an ardent spokesman for other moral causes. In 1985, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his humanitarian achievements. In this JPS Young Biography, Ellen Norman Stern chronicles the remarkable life of Elie Wiesel.
