Shofar. The most famous commandment of Rosh Hashanah is hearing the ram’s horn, shofar. Many people purchase a shofar as a symbol of the season, and practice its blowing all year long in anticipation. Judaism.com offers a wide range of shofarot, from hand-sized models to the large Sephardic
shofars often seen in museums. The ram’s horn recalls the binding of Isaac on the altar on Mt. Moriah; the giving of the Torah at Mt. Sinai which was accompanied by a ram’s horn; and the sound of the “great shofar” that will proclaim the coming of Moshiach, the “True Messiah.”
