| Yad - Torah Pointer. The Jewish people treat holy objects with utmost respect. For example, one is not supposed to touch a Torah parchment with one's hands. To prevent the reader of the Torah from accidentally touching it, the some one invented a fake finger - the yad. The yad is usually made of silver or olive wood and may be pained, have filigree or other designs. A yad makes a beautiful Bat/Bar Mitzvah present—to be used during the service and kept afterwards as a memento of that special day. Yads also remind young adults to always go in the right direction.
