Mainly composed  of glass, metal,or wood, Gary Rosenthal, Sara Beames, Susan Fullenbaum and Emanuel are our most popular seder plate artists. Budget, disposable seder plates are used for community, synagogue or student seders.  The seder plate normally has five or six sections; each holds a different symbolic food: The shank bone or roasted piece of meat represents the lamb that was sacrificed on the eve of the Exodus from Egypt.  Bitter herbs (maror) remind us of the bitterness of the slavery of our forefathers in Egypt. Grated horseradish, endive or romaine leaves are used.  Charoset is a mixture of grated apples chopped  nuts and wine to remind us of the hard labor of making the bricks for the Egyptians.  A non-bitter vegetable dipped in salt water represents the tears of the Hebrew slaves.  A roasted hard-boiled egg, symbolizes the sacrifice that was offered in the Temple in Jerusalem.
