The Mishna contains the teachings of the early Rabbis which were
recorded by Rabbi Judah haNasi around 220 CE. The Gemara is an
explanation and elaboration on the Mishna. It was compiled over the
following three centuries. Together, the Mishna and Gemara make up
the Talmud, also known as the
Oral Law. The Talmud complements and
completes the instruction provided in the Five Books of Moses. In
other words, the Torah commands a person what to do. The Talmud
