"A red flower in full bloom balances itself on a slender stem that descends to rich fertile earth. It seems as if the fragile, transparent petals grow independently from the heavy earth, yet we perceive that the flower continually receives its nourishment from the ground and will soon wilt if this connection is cut. Our soul is similarly connected to its source of nourishment the Creator of all souls. It is this connection that the soul constantly longs for, a spiritual thirst that other pleasures cannot satisfy. " The Hebrew verses from Psalms incorporated into the picture are recited daily after the blessing for putting on the tallit. The translation:
How precious is Thy loving-kindness, G-d, In the shade of Thy wings men find shelter. From the abundance of Your house they are filled, You quench their thirst from the river of Your pleasures
For the source of life is with You, By Your light we see light Bring Your grace to those who know You And Your justice to those of straight heart
